winter uglies
💕
the winter uglies is the culmination of the magic of the holidays being over, the gloomy weather, and the lack of vitamin d and fresh produce finally getting to you. you just feel ROUGH- or as my grandmother says “rode hard and put away wet” clothes aren’t sitting right, hair isn’t doing what it should, skin is worse, your house is all empty after the holiday decor comes down it’s just a rough time to be had on all levels. i’ve been in the lab 🤓 aka my bathroom trying to find ways to shake loose the winter uglies.
🔬I’ve been trying to follow at least pieces of the Tiktok famous “Abbey Yung Method” to help boost my hair during the winter and during swim. Her method can be as simple or as complex as you want it but essentially she has researched products that are known to help strengthen the bonds in your hair. I chose to do the simpler version just because I could easily use quite a lot of things I already owned. I really only had to buy three things: a clarifying shampoo, a leave in conditioner, and a heat protectant/styling product. The reason this is still in the lab is because yes the clarifying shampoo and leave in conditioner have been fantastic I just haven’t been able to nail down a styling product that doesn’t make me look like a cow licked my head 😭 I had high hopes for the Tresemme Volume Mousse but it’s just too heavy so the search continues
🔬We all know I absolutely LIVE for a roller set and I have been so intrigued by hot rollers and recently got the Remington Hot Rollers which are fantastic do not get me wrong I think these are really beginner friendly and fairly easy to use- the continued research is in roller patterns I just need to find that go to layout that will get my hair in the right places it really is an art 😮💨
🔬I’m trying to do all my research on deodorant before summer which really is a favor to everyone around me. My tried and true is actually a men’s deodorant, Degree Ultra Clear in Fresh but the one I am trying out is the Saltair AHA Serum Deodorant. I’ve seen a lot of people swear by the Ordinary Toner as a deodorant actually which was intriguing but a lot of those people were mentioning they started with Saltair because it has a smaller molecule size which helped lessen any potential irritation. So far the Saltair has been nice, no irritation but also its been 50 degrees and raining so not a lot of testing on the sweat front.
🔬My favorite beauty creator at the moment is Javon Ford because everything he puts out is science backed and meticulously researched. I used his ratio for hair oiling- 1:1 carrier oil and essential rosemary oil and I use that at night on my scalp because after sleeping with rollers in I’ve noticed one little less than full spot on my hairline and it seems to help!!
🔬Like two summers ago in the height of Love Island season 6’s popularity, contestant Leah Kateb dropped her shower routine and mentioned that if you use those cutesie smell good body washes, you still needed to use an actual body wash beforehand so since then I’ve been using the Dove Antibacterial Bodywash. The part I just am still workshopping is I love people that have a signature scent so I’m trying to find mine- I’ve used Sticky Dates from Lush, the rose scent from Method but my current “fun” bodywash is the Fig bodywash from Harry’s I just love those androgynous scents and so far I think it goes well with the Karma perfume I have from Lush and the Santal Bloom deodorant I have too.
